Elly Charsley - Fine Artist
Born and raised in Staffordshire, Elly Charsley is a multimedia fine artist specialising in photography, video, sound and performance. Recently completing her BA in Fine Art at university, Charsley's work often focuses on themes of feminism, patriarchy, identity and religion, using her own mind, body and experiences as a source of inspiration. Popular culture and history also play a key role in informing her practice, with her most recent works exploring the real, lived experiences of historic female figures, and common feminine archetypes found in TV, cinema, literature and theatre.
Charsley is highly conscious of how her audience interacts with her work, as she not only attempts to connect with and heal her inner self through her practice, but also to create a sense of solidarity among her wider audience. As long as her viewers feel something in response to her work, whether it be intrigue, sadness, discomfort or peace, her role as an artist has been fulfilled.

Feedback
“It has been a real joy to see the students’ response to the live brief. They have engaged with the local community and spent time on location to arrive at some exciting and thought-provoking artwork for the canal side.” - Deborah Hilditch, Appetite Stoke.
